Hobart Institute of Welding Technology announced the retirement of long-time Librarian and Editor Martha “Marty” Baker following 38 years of service. Marty was responsible for the Hobart Institute website, www.welding.org, as well as her work on the quarterly magazine, The World of Welding. In addition, she edited several books and served as a resource in library support for Hobart Brothers Co. and the general welding industry. Marty also worked with the certified welding inspector/educator program as a supervisor for national exams.
Marty noted, “There were many changes that took place during the past 38 years, both at Hobart Institute and in libraries that transformed the way we work. Without a doubt, the advent of computers coupled with social media definitely has changed the work that transpires within libraries. Throughout the years, I worked with eight different presidents and had the privilege of meeting people from nearly every state in the union and from around the world. The work was rewarding in so many ways and I owe a debt of gratitude to many people!”
As she looks forward to changing lifestyles, Marty plans continue her work as president of Troy City Council and through volunteerism with several community organizations.
