J.  Marcus (Mark) Laney of Laney Directional Drilling, Humble, TX, was honored by the Pipeliners Association of Houston with its “Pipeliner of the Year” award during the group’s dinner meeting on June 7, 2010, at the Houston Engineering and Scientific Society Building.
  Laney was recognized for his exemplary work in both road boring and directional drilling.  Also at the event, the following officers were elected for the 2010-2011 term: David Dacus, Troy Construction, LLC, president; Marcus Sexton, Trow Engineering Consultants, vice president; and Allan Taylor, Mustang Engineering, treasurer.

KSEnergy Services announced that CIVC Partners, in partnership with True North Equity, has acquired an interest in KSEnergy Services. CIVC is a 40-year-old Chicago-based private equity firm with over $1.3 billion under management. True North is a Detroit based firm that makes investments in utility maintenance companies.
  Dennis Klumb, Jr. will remain president and CEO of KSEnergy Service, Tom Schaitel, COO; Shawn Klumb, senior vice president; Richard Klumb, senior vice president; and Michael Klumb, senior vice president, will continue in their respective roles with the company as will the rest of the senior management team.
  Dennis Klumb, Sr. who stepped aside a year ago as president and CEO of KSEnergy Services will be retiring from the company.

UniversalPegasus International has become the major shareholder in Integrated Pipeline Projects (IPP), which is located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  IPP will continue to be led by IPP managers Tony Griffin, Ron Curle and Dave Julian.  The company specializes in the execution of complex multi-disciplined pipeline projects with broad experience in oil and gas transmission pipelines, projects through difficult terrain, and permafrost.

Stephen L. Witte Sr. joined Pipeline Products Specialty Company (PPSC) in 2010. His experience in managing sales of products and services into oilfield, pipeline, and industrial channels to marketing in North America, will help PPSC continue growth into the future.

The Shaw Group Inc. has received a contract from the state of Louisiana’s Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration for overall project management and construction of barrier island temporary berms in response to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
  Shaw will conduct environmental permitting and assist the state in providing personnel, materials and equipment to build these temporary sand berms. Construction of the berms, in accordance with the emergency permit will require mobilization, front-end planning, material testing and analysis, dredging and alignment surveys, as well as coordination with state and federal agencies.

Barnhart Crane & Rigging and Powell Companies have reached a definitive agreement under which Barnhart will purchase Powell’s crane rental division, which has locations in Knoxville and Johnson City, TN. 

ACE Winches has appointed Derek Penny as head of group sales and business development. Penny’s role will involve building on the company’s international growth..

Midwest ENERGY Association’s (MEA) 87th Annual Gas Operations School will be held in Ames, IA,  Aug. 3- 5, 2010. This year, MEA will host over 55 technical classes, a fire school, a special session on advanced valve maintenance and 150 exhibits.
  The school offers hands-on training, while the conference sessions provides solutions and ideas to reduce operating costs, increase productivity and enhance worker and customer safety. Most classes are eligible for CEU/PDH credit. The focus is on front-line operations personnel: gas crews, foremen, team leads, supervisors, managers and directors.

Expro has won another top award from the UK-based Royal Society for the Prevention (RoSPA) of Accidents in recognition of six years of outstanding safety performance. The company received a gold medal to recognize 6 years of achievement in the RoSPA awards, which has included 4 consecutive years as Oil & Gas sector award winners and two special gold awards.
Expro was the first service company to win the Oil & Gas sector award – first winning it in 2006, and repeating this success in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

UK-based Jee has won a 3-year contract extension, with a further optional 2 years, for the integrity management of Perenco’s 995-miles of pipelines and umbilicals in the southern North Sea. This contract is part of Jee’s ongoing relationship with Perenco which has included pipeline integrity management and operational support for the past 6 years.

Anne Psencik has joined Buckeye as vice president, Market Development. The development of infrastructure projects and acquisitions that fit Buckeye’s growth strategy, including the commercial development of the proposed Union Pipeline project, will be among Psencik’s responsibilities.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) held a signing ceremony on May 17, 2010 to finalize OSHA’s formal recognition of the NCCER Crane Operator Certification Program. The ceremony was held in Washington, DC. Attendees included key industry leaders representing Washington, DC and the construction industry.
  “Through this agreement OSHA and NCCER are working together to attain our mutual goal of improving crane safety in the construction industry,” said Bill Parsons, acting director for OSHA’s Directorate of Construction. Obituary
Nick Beffer, formerly with H. C. Price Co., died June 8, in Broken Arrow, OK, after a long illness. He was 81. Beffer leaves many friends in the pipeline construction industry. He is survived by his wife Margaret; sons Nick Jr., Tony and Joe; daughters Vicki and Cathy; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
