Polyguard has named Billy Russell to the position of technical sales representative for the pipeline division. Russell is NACE III certified and has over 19 years of industrial coating experience. He will assist in developing the U.S. and Canadian markets.

Mike Benjamin has joined T.D. Williamson, Inc. (TDW) as vice president, Offshore Pipeline Solutions, located in Houston. In this capacity Benjamin will focus on fully implementing the full array of TDW products and services – including hot tapping and plugging, pigging, SmartPlug® isolation technology and inline inspection – within the offshore arena.

Mears Group, Inc. recently added Kurt Lawson to its staff as a senior director – Integrity Solutions. He will be working from the Plain City, OH office location.
  Lawson has more than 25 years of experience in the field of corrosion and materials engineering. He has also worked extensively on high profile litigation cases and has led various workshops and short courses.  Lawson attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and studied Metallurgical Engineering with an emphasis on Corrosion at Ohio State University.

Cathy P. Cavender, vice president of Patterson & Wilder Construction Co. Inc., Surf City, NC, recently announced the promotion of Ed Kosarek to the position of vice president of Field Services. Cavender said, “Kosarek has provided 31 years of hands-on experience to our management team and proven to be a valuable management team addition. We look forward to years of continued excellence under his leadership.”

Exports are big business for Oklahoma companies. That was the word from Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin who presented a local company, Control Devices, Inc., with a U. S. Commercial Service’s Export Achievement Certificate. The Certificate program is designed to showcase the important role that exporting plays in the national economy, to highlight the contributions made by exporters to their local communities, and to recognize new and existing exporters.
  Gov. Fallin presented nine of the certificates at the recent 28th Annual Oklahoma World Trade Conference.

Farwest Corrosion Control has opened a new warehouse and distribution center in Houston, TX to service Gulf Coast customer. The 10,000 sq-ft. warehouse and office complex represents the eighth location for this global distributor of corrosion control products and services. Under the control of 26-year corrosion veteran, Russell Widner, the new facility will offer both products and services relative to a variety of industries served by Farwest.

Vectren Corporation has acquired Minnesota Limited, Inc. in a strategic move to grow Vectren’s infrastructure services business segment. Minnesota Limited will join wholly owned subsidiary Miller Pipeline in Vectren’s infrastructure services group. One of the Midwest’s largest contractors serving the natural gas and petroleum industry, Minnesota Limited has been in operation since 1966 as a specialty contractor focusing on transmission pipeline construction and maintenance; pump station, compressor station, terminal and refinery construction; gas distribution; and hydrostatic testing.
  Minnesota Limited, headquartered in Big Lake, MN, has approximately 500 employees and is licensed to operate in about 40 U.S. states. Miller Pipeline, headquartered in Indianapolis, IN, employs more than 1,700 construction professionals working throughout 24 facilities in the eastern half of the United States. Through the acquisition, Miller Pipeline and Minnesota Limited will gain an expanded service territory with little customer or geographic overlap, resources to compete for larger projects and a more diverse revenue stream within the construction markets served.

On its 15th anniversary of being in business, MACAW Engineering announced  an additional expansion of the head office in Newcastle UK.  Established in 1996 and having already grown to 50 permanent staff members, the company will move to new premises located in the Quorum Business Park in June 2011. These new facilities will support up to 100 staff and accommodate the next phase of growth of the company.

Total Safety has acquired On.Site Advanced Medical Services, Inc. based in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Founded in 2002, On.Site is a leader in remote mobile medical services and occupational healthcare. They provide medical technicians, mobile treatment centers, ambulances, and training for industrial and upstream oil and gas clients across Alberta and British Columbia, Canada.
  Art Stirrett, president of On.Site, noted, “We are very eager to provide our clients with additional services now that we are part of the Total Safety family. We know this combination will be advantageous for our clients and our loyal employees.” Art Stirrett and Wes Shoemaker, founders, will continue to manage the business. Specific financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Clariant has acquired Saskatchewan, Canada-based oil services company Prairie Petro-Chem and will integrate it into the Clariant Oil Services business. The acquisition of Prairie Petro-Chem will allow Clariant Oil Services to meet heightened customer demand in the prolific Bakken Shale, which is positioned to be North America’s number one oil and gas producing region. Currently Prairie Petro-Chem serves approximately 7,000 oilfield sites, representing more than 50% of the southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba markets.

Over the next couple of years, Volvo CE plans to spend $100 million in its Shippensburg, PA, manufacturing facility and start production of Volvo wheel loaders, excavators and articulated haulers in North America.  Also, the Volvo CE North American sales headquarters and Volvo Rents will relocate from Asheville, NC to Shippensburg, PA by September 2012.

H&E Equipment Services recently became certified as a Manitowoc Crane Care EnCORE Partner and is the first U.S. dealer to qualify and join the new program. This new designation now authorizes H&E to make OEM-backed structural repairs and complete machine remanufacturing – to any Manitowoc crane or attachment.
  The EnCORE Partners Program provides special pricing, support and training to Manitowoc dealers who perform crane remanufacturing and repair services that involve structural repairs, providing a much faster and less costly turnaround for customers.
  Frank Arthur, Branch Manager of H&E Equipment Services in Belle Chasse, LA and Birmingham, AL, said this ability to perform structural repairs will take H&E’s already successful repair and remanufacturing services to the next level.

  Changes at Contract Land Staff, LLC saw Laurie F. Markoe, currently president and COO being named president and CEO. Lee McFarlain succeeds Markoe in the role of COO in addition to his current role as CFO. Brent Leftwich, company founder and former CEO, will move into a consulting role as vice chairman for the company’s board of managers.
  In other news, David Dool has joined the company as senior vice president of  Project Services. 

Midwest Mole, Inc. recently hired two new employees. Randy Marra joined the company as director of Business Development and Brent Hofer as project engineer and estimator.

Shawcor Ltd.’s subsidiary, Shaw Pipe Protection Limited, has entered into an agreement to acquire certain of the coating assets and business of Altus Energy Services Partnership, Altus Energy Services Ltd. and Nusco Northern Manufacturing Ltd.  The coating business, formerly known as CSI, provides shop applied coatings at its modern facility in Nisku, Alberta and provides field coating services throughout Western Canada. The acquisition of the CSI assets will allow Shaw Pipe Protection to supply a broad range of internal and external custom coating solutions that are complementary to its current range of anti-corrosion, flow efficiency and insulation coatings for oil and gas gathering and transmission lines. This acquisition will also allow Shaw Pipe Protection to provide a full range of custom coating solutions for the oil sands and for pipeline rehabilitation applications.

Insituform Technologies, Inc.
announced that David H. Kroon has been promoted to president, Corrpro Companies, a subsidiary of Insituform. In the new role, Kroon will have leadership responsibilities for the global operations of Corrpro and will direct Insituform’s strategic plan to grow Corrpro’s international businesses in the Middle East. He will also be charged with identifying opportunities to leverage the Company’s product and service offerings across its global footprint.

John Barrett, PE, has assumed the Pipeline and Unconventional Oil & Gas Business Line director’s role for URS Corporation following the retirement of Richard Bausell, vice president Energy Services. Barrett will be relocating to Houston.

Hydratight announced two senior management moves, effective immediately. Chris Mitchell takes over as western region business leader from Bob Boychuk, who becomes nuclear portfolio manager.

Flint Hills Resources has opened a new office in Ames, IA that will provide up to 20 new jobs. The new regional office will house operations, human resources and purchasing departments to support four newly acquired Flint Hills ethanol plants located throughout Iowa. In addition, Flint Hills has a significant presence in Iowa.  The company distributes refined fuels throughout the state and owns a fuel terminal in Bettendorf. It also operates asphalt plants in Algona, Davenport and Dubuque.

Sanford “Sandy” Brown, 77, passed away at his home in Giddings on Feb. 26, 2011.
  Brown was born on September 6, 1933, in Mayfield, OK to Charles Henry and Lily Carolyn (Abla) Brown.
  He was a registered Professional Engineer and worked for Dow Chemical, El Paso Products, and Flint Engineering and Construction. Ever an entrepreneur and businessman, Brown started several pipeline construction companies including Two Rivers Construction in Odessa, TX and Holloman Offshore in Aberdeen, Scotland, as well businesses in other industries. In 1979, Sandy and his wife Jane started Brown Engineering and Testing, from which he retired in 2003.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jane; a grandson, Adam Brooks; two sisters, Joyce Brown and Aileen Bowen; and a brother, Wayne Brown.  He is survived by two daughters: Teri and husband Rick Brooks and Leslie and husband Earnie Wright; son, Charlie and wife Angie; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Joe Voerding of Boulder City, NV passed away April 7, 2011 at the age of 62. Voerding was born in Rawlins, WY, and raised in Fort Collins, CO. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Metro State College in Denver.
  Vierding was a salesman and manager for several heavy equipment companies located in various parts of the western United States. Upon his death, he was the Pipeline Sales Specialist for Cashman Equipment, the Caterpillar dealer in Las Vegas, NV. One of his proudest professional achievement was the development and coordination of all the heavy equipment needs for the Ruby Pipeline, a natural gas pipeline extending from Opal, WY to Malin, OR.
  Vierding is survived by his wife Carlene and son Matt.
