Herrenknecht recently received the (IPLOCA) International Pipeline & Offshore Contractors Association’s New Technologies Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. for the newly developed semi-trenchless Pipe Express®. The Pipe Express® is an innovative mechanized method for the near-surface installation of pipelines. Pipelines of up to 2,000 meters in length and with diameters of 900 to 1,500mm (36 – 60 inches) can be installed in a single-step procedure.
The IPLOCA, based in Geneva, Switzerland, represents major companies in the onshore and offshore pipeline industry worldwide. Every two years, as part of its annual meeting, IPLOCA awards the IPLOCA Award for significant innovations in the pipeline industry which is sponsored by BP.
Doug Evans, president of the IPLOCA and CEO of Gulf Interstate Engineering, emphasized in his speech that Herrenknecht Pipe Express® can make a key contribution to environmental protection in pipeline projects. This aspect was decisive for the jury as protection of the environment is of major importance in the development of large-scale projects. Ulrich Schaffhauser, chairman of the executive board of the Business Unit Utility Tunnelling, received the award during the event.
The West Michigan section of the American Welding Society (AWS) recently held its first meeting of the fiscal year at TÜV Rheinland Industrial Solutions’(TRIS) laboratory in Caledonia, MI. TRIS’ Steve Farran, radiography technician, and Michael Belcher, field service manager, showcased such non-destructive weld testing methods as X-rays, ultrasonic testing and phased array testing. Attendees toured TRIS’ facility and learned about the materials testing and inspection services that the company provides to global customers in accordance with numerous domestic and international requirements.
The AWS holds educational meetings to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes.
Atlas Pipeline Partners, L.P. has named Patrick J. McDonie president of Atlas Pipeline Partners GP, LLC, the partnership’s general partner. McDonie has been the senior vice president and COO of the general partner since July 2012. He will remain as COO.
James A. Davis has joined Tex-Direct Drilling LLC as president. Davis comes to Tex-Direct Drilling with a wealth of experience in the pipeline construction industry. Prior to joining Tex-Direct, Davis served as Driver Pipeline’s vice president of Project Management and Contract Administration. Most recently, he served Troy Construction in business development and special projects.

Martin Weissburg has been appointed president of Volvo Construction Equipment. Weissburg is currently president of the Volvo Group’s customer finance company, Volvo Financial Services, VFS, and a member of the Group Executive Team. He replaces Pat Olney.
Vermeer Texas – Louisiana, a market leader in environmental and construction equipment with 12 locations across Texas and south Louisiana, recently celebrated the grand opening of a new branch in Midland, TX. The 8,000 sq-ft facility will allow Vermeer Texas-Louisiana to provide local parts availability, in-shop and field service support to the Midland/Odessa area and customers working in the Permian Basin. The Midland location will have access to a full-line of Vermeer equipment ranging from trenchers and brush chippers to directional drills and vacuum excavators, offering both sales and rental options for customers.
Pittsburgh, PA-based L.B. Foster Company has acquired Ball Winch Pipeline Services, LLC., a privately-owned company based in Willis, TX that applies specialty pipe coatings and provides field services for the oil and gas, mining, water and waste water industries. The Ball Winch organization will become a key component of L.B. Foster’s Tubular Products group led by Vice President, Merry Brumbaugh. “Ball Winch is a leading pipe coating applicator with a proven reputation for satisfying the most demanding requirements for custom coated pipe or specialty coatings,” said Brumbaugh.
NorTex Midstream Partners, LLC has named Ben Moore to lead the company as president and CEO. He joins NorTex with 25 years of experience in business development, operations and engineering in both the upstream and midstream energy sectors.
Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Newpark Resources Inc. President and CEO Paul Howes announced the company will invest $41.1 million in its Newpark Mats and Integrated Services facility in Carencro, LA, doubling both the size of the facility and its estimated output. The Carencro site manufactures composite mats for drill site construction and other applications.
Construction of the 50,000-square-foot expansion will begin in January 2014 and be completed by the end of 2015. The company will begin hiring new employees for the expansion in early 2014.
Target Logistics has named Stewart Orange and Ross Sturgeon as business development managers for its newly formed Canadian division. Target Logistics currently operates 17 properties in the U.S., Mexico and Australia housing some 5,400 oil, gas and mining workers.
The Montana Contractor’s Association, Montana Petroleum Association, Montana Coal Council and KLJ announced registration is open for Montana Energy 2014. The conference is the only energy event in Montana sanctioned and hosted by three major trade associations whose members collectively purchase hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of equipment, materials, supplies and professional services.

Collins Associates Inc. has completed the sale of its Venco and Venturo Manufacturing Divisions to their management team of Brett Collins, Mike Strittholt and Dave Foster. The agreement keeps control of the brands with the existing management team and preserves 100% of the jobs and manufacturing facilities of the existing Cincinnati location.
Vacuworx Global LLC has expanded its global presence with the addition of three new hires and a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa. James F. Pfeiffer has been named the vice president of Sales.
