Dallas, TX-based Driver Pipeline has been named the 2012 Natural Gas Business Unit Contractor Safety Award Winner by Kinder Morgan, the largest midstream and the fourth largest energy company (based on combined enterprise value) in North America.
The winner was selected from a pool of 630 contractors based on Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Review of Safety Programs (RAVS), Review of Training Documentation (T-RAVS), and Kinder Morgan specified performance.
In making the award, Richard Slaugh, contractor safety manager for Kinder Morgan, congratulated the entire Driver Pipeline team of employees. “In 2011 Driver Pipeline proved that the core values of safety, cost control, production and quality are realized. Slaugh also noted that Driver Pipeline had a consistent “A” rating, a TRIR less than industry average, as well as a 0.00 TRIR for KM Projects.”
Jim Shaffer, president of Driver Pipeline, said, “It’s gratifying when an industry leader such as Kinder Morgan recognizes how Driver Pipeline’s core values drive our safety programs, and in turn create the best environment for quality and cost control. We believe that safety is simply good business, and to be recognized by a power house such as Kinder Morgan is confirmation that we got it right.”
Pipeline veteran Kevin Farley, senior vice president of Operations for Driver Pipeline, echoed the “safety is good business” message. “Safety is part of the job. We talk about it everyday,” he said. “I can’t think of one company in our industry that has been successful without focusing on safety.”
Farley, went on to talk about how safety was a team effort that starts with a commitment at the very top of the organization. “James Driver, our CEO, told me that safety is everybody’s job, and I believe him.”
