FERC has approved National Fuel Gas Supply Corporation’s request to conduct non-mechanical tree felling associated with the Line T2KNY Install, Line TNY Replacement, and Line KNY Abandonment Project in Erie County, New York.

“This approval is limited to tree felling through the allotted construction time window for federally threatened northern long-eared bats, which expires on March 31, 2017,”Alisa M. Lykens, Chief, Gas Branch 2, Division of Gas – Environment and Engineering with FERC, said. “National Fuel is bound by this requirement as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nationwide Permit No. 12 Special Condition for the Project. In addition, trees must be felled by hand and left in place until an approved State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) General Permit is received as stated in the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation waiver, dated March 17, 2017.”

Lykens added that tracked or wheeled equipment that could result in the disturbance of soil must not be used during construction.
