FERC Approves Tree Felling for Orion Project

Posted on

FERC has approved Kinder Morgan’s request to conduct non-mechanized tree felling associated with the Orion Project.

According to FERC’s ruling, the trees must be felled in a manner so as to avoid obstruction of flow, rutting, and sedimentation of wetlands and waterbodies and must be completed in the allotted construction time window for federally-listed bats and migratory birds, which expires on March 31, 2017.

The Orion Project consists of constructing approximately 13 miles of pipeline looping in Pike and Wayne counties, Pennsylvania and making minor modifications to one existing compressor station in Pike County, Pennsylvania.

Once completed, the project will enable the delivery of 135,000 dekatherms per day of additional firm natural gas capacity and is expected to be in service in June 2018.
