Henkels & McCoy has been awarded a contract by Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. LLC for the Connecticut Expansion Project to upgrade its existing system within New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut. This expansion project is developed to meet increased demand in the U.S. Northeast for transportation capacity for natural gas, a clean, environmentally friendly energy source produced domestically.
As currently configured, the project consists of 13.49 miles of 24-inch and 36-inch diameter pipeline looping in Albany County, NY, Berkshire and Hampden counties, MA and Hartford County, CT, minor modifications at one compressor station in Massachusetts, and installation of minor appurtenant facilities. Looping involves the installation of new pipeline segments adjacent to and connecting with existing pipeline to add incremental capacity. A benefit of looping a pipeline is that land and environmental/habitat disturbance can be kept at a minimum.
