Canada’s National Energy Board (NEB) has announced detailed route hearings for Segments 3 & 4 of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project are scheduled to commence in February 2018. The hearings will take place in Valemount and Clearwater, B.C. and are expected to address 20 statements of opposition to Kinder Morgan’s proposed route for the project.
To date, approximately 150 kilometers of detailed route plans within Segments 3 & 4 that were not opposed by landowners or affected persons have now been approved by the NEB. Prior to beginning construction in these areas, Kinder Morgan must satisfy all applicable pre-construction conditions.
The 1,147-kilometer pipeline project was approved by the Government of Canada in November 2016, along a pipeline corridor approximately 150 meters wide. The detailed route approval process will determine the exact placement of the new pipeline within the approved corridor. Throughout Alberta, detailed route hearings are currently underway or scheduled to begin early next month.
