FERC has approved the following Northern Natural Gas Company variance requests for the Des Moines B-line Loop Project in Boone and Polk Counties, Iowa:

  • Reversal of the entry and exit points of the horizontal directional drill (HDD) at W. Division Street and County E41 Road
  • The use of additional extra temporary work space to accommodate topsoil segregation up to 36 inches between mileposts 5.0 and 5.3, per landowner request
  • Enlargement of an existing extra temporary work space near the intersection of NW 106th Avenue and NW 121st Street by .05 acre to better facilitate a road bore
  • Changing the location of the HDD drill rig near milepost 2.2 to the existing exit location, such that both the drill rig and pullback will be operated from the same location

The Des Moines B-line Loop Project includes the installation of approximately 11.2 miles of 20-inch-diameter pipeline loop starting at Northern’s existing Ogden compressor station, and approximately 2.6 miles of 20-inch-diameter pipeline loop starting at Northern’s existing Royal Estates reducing station. The project also involves the removal of 20 feet of 8-inch-diameter station piping and 5 feet of the 16-inch-diameter Des Moines B-line, both at the Royal Estates reducing station.
