PipeLine Machinery
PipeLine Machinery (PLM-Cat) recently introduced its newest pipelayer offering – the 72H. The 72H is a purpose-built pipelayer with a 90,000 lb lift capacity that bridges the gap between the lifting capacity of the company’s PL61 (40,000 lb) and the heavy lifting PL83 (160,000 lb) and PL87 (214,000 lb). The 72H base tractor adaptations and pipelayer design utilizes the Vanguard Equipment engineering expertise (designers of the Cat 572R and 571M). This Tier 4 Interim/EU Stage IIIB-class machine is designed to meet the most exacting emissions requirements in the world. The 72H requires ultra low-sulphur diesel fuel readily available throughout North America and selected European countries. Future models in this weight class will also be available with earlier version engines for operation in countries without access to the required fuel grade. www.plmcat.com

McLaughlin Group
The McLaughlin Group has introduced the Strong Arm — a heavy duty steel arm from the vacuum excavator that helps carry the weight of the vacuum excavation hose. The tank-mounted attachment carries the weight of the hose, plus the debris being vacuumed. This is designed to help reduce operator fatigue and improve productivity. McLaughlin says the Strong Arm provides 200 degrees of rotation and extends 6 feet from the tank, providing a wide work range in any application. The attachment is currently available on all McLaughlin 500 and 800 gallon (1892.7 to 3028.3 L) models. Strong Arm can also be added to an existing McLaughlin vacuum at your local Vermeer dealer. mmole@mightymole.com.

New Century Software
New Century Software unveils a new product suite that is said to streamline the process of creating a pipeline centerline and simplifies the tasks associated with linear referencing. Centerline Design Toolkit is described as a robust and easy-to-implement ESRI ArcMap extension that adds to the already large portfolio of software products tailored to help oil and gas operators increase the accuracy and integrity of GIS pipeline data. It consists of a number of individual tools for viewing and creating linear data. These tools simplify common tasks that can be difficult to perform with complex geo-processing work flows, such as connecting GPS points to create a line, assigning 2D or 3D measures, and generating events with stationing. All of these tasks are necessary and now achievable in less time with this toolkit. www.newcenturysoftware.com.

Lincoln Electric
Lincoln Electric’s self-propelled modular Cruiser® Tractor brings increased mobility and operator-friendly features to longitudinal submerged arc welding applications common in bridge and barge decking, large tank fabrication and shipbuilding. When used with the Power Wave® AC/DC 1000® SD power source, the Cruiser® travel carriage can deliver deposition rates of up to 60 lbs. per hour for butt and fillet joints on lengthy plate welding applications. The Cruiser® is rated for 1000 amps @100% duty cycle. Depending on gear ratio used, the feeder can handle 1/16 – 7/32-inch (1.6 – 5.6 mm) submerged arc wire diameters at travel speeds ranging from 10 to 100 ipm (0.25 – 2.5 m/min). lincoln@ultlead.com.

ESAB
ESAB is offering a free full-color poster, entitled “Welding problems and defects – causes and remedies,” for use in workshops, quality assurance departments, training facilities and educational establishments. According to ESAB, the poster presents 12 different welding problems and defects, ranging from spatter and deformation to crater cracks and slag inclusions. Each is illustrated with a diagram and the potential causes are listed. Alongside the causes are one or more remedies that can be applied to improve the weld. For example, the potential causes of spatter are listed as: welding current too high; arc too long; incorrect polarity – arc blow; and insufficient gas shielding. Suggested remedies for these are provided. E-mail: info@esab.co.uk.

McElroy
McElroy, prominent in pipe fusion equipment and accessories, recently introduced the Guided Side-Bend Tester. The quality assurance device performs a qualitative test for ductility in a fusion joint. The Guided Side-Bend Tester is a quick, safe replacement for “bend back” tests that have been performed in the field for many years. With the new equipment, an operator can perform a bend-back test on polyethylene pipes with 1 to 7 inches of wall thickness. This testing method places the entire wall thickness into tension and gives assurance of the ductility of joints. The test unit is compact and requires just a few common tools to conduct the process. www.mcelroy.com/fusion.

Kafko International Ltd.
Oil Eater cleaner/degreaser is an all-purpose, highly concentrated, alkaline based cleaner formulated to eliminate the need for multiple cleaning solutions. The company says it quickly disperses oil, grease and grime from equipment, engines, tools, concrete and much more. It can also be used in parts cleaning and pressure washing systems. The water-based cleaner is said to be biodegradable, non-corrosive, non-toxic and non-flammable.  It contains no acids, abrasives or petroleum solvents. It is available in 1-, 5-, 30-, and 55-gallon containers. www/oileater.com.

Reed Manufacturing Company
Reed Manufacturing says its Rapid Cut & Bevel™ (RCB) machines safely and efficiently cut and bevel up to 24-inch nominal (610 mm actual) PVC or PE pipe in one pass. Described as faster than manual cutters and safer than chop saws, these lightweight, pneumatic powered machines are portable to the jobsite and are used aboveground, in water or in trenches. It takes about one minute per pipe diameter inch for set-up, cut and bevel.  Companies working with larger diameter PVC and PE pipe find the RBC to be a great help on the jobsite. www.reedmfgco.com.

Kenco Corporation
The Kenco Corporation says the easiest, safest and most cost effective way to move pipe is with the Pipe Lift. It is ready for operation by simply using a lifting sling such as the Kenco RigMAX attached to any type or model of machine with lifting capabilities. The Pipe Lift is available in sizes to accommodate all types of pipe — ductile iron, PVC, RCP and steel —  ranging from 3- to 100-inch OD. Full face rubber-coated tongs also prevent damage to the pipe. The Pipe Lift is described by the company as being capable of doubling production of pipe installations versus methods using slings and cables. Email: tblack@kenco.com.

R&M Energy Systems
R&M Energy Systems’ SENTRY® non-threaded, internal door closures are said to be ideal for pipeline, pressure vessel, pig trap, filter and filtration system and manway access applications. The company says the closures improve security – due to heavier, more rugged locking components that retain pressure in both shear and compression modes; and improve safety – with all locking components fully engaged until vessel depressurization is complete.  Installation of the one-piece replacement seal is said to be quick and easy, resulting in reduced maintenance time and lower incurred maintenance costs. www.rmenergy.com.
