Vermeer completes its family of mini skid steers with the addition of the S450TX. The company says it is well suited for rental customers, as well as landscapers and general contractors who need a compact machine that can perform various tasks. Designed to accommodate a wide range of attachments, the S450TX also has a 500-pound SAE-rated operating capacity with a 1,430 pound tipping capacity, giving the machine a lot of muscle for its size. Vermeer has incorporated a four-pump hydraulic system, which provides performance and efficiency when powering attachments. A single pilot-operated joystick is now integrated into the S450TX platform, which makes the machine easy to maneuver and operate in comparison to manual control systems. The S450TX can be customized with a choice of engine and track options. The Kubota 24.8-horsepower (18.2 kW) diesel engine and Kohler EFI 27-horsepower (19.9 kW) gas engine both provide excellent torque performance and are designed for those who use attachments requiring greater engine

Heath Consultants
The Optical Methane Detector offered by Heath Consultants is designed to increase measurement speed and accuracy when performing mobile inspections of buried natural gas distribution, transmission, and gathering pipelines. Containing no moving parts, the OMD can be front mounted on a vehicle and calibrated by the driver or technician from inside the vehicle. OMD uses infrared technology, eliminating potential hazards such as explosive calibration gases. The OMD can detect leak indications in concentrations of less than 1 part per million (ppm) at 10,000 measurements per second. Data can be sent to a data logger or translated to a ground positioning satellite (GPS) system. Adding-on the Heath Survey Tracker will allow the ability to log mobile leak survey data and GPS locations of all natural gas leaks detected. Email:

Volvo Construction Equipment
Volvo Construction Equipment officials say one highlight of the new SD75 compactor is its powerful 4-cylinder Volvo engine (99.2 hp) which combines Tier 4i and EPA certification with the performance, dependability and fuel efficiency for which Volvo is known. A diesel particulate filter (DPF) burns off and eliminates material build-up — further reducing emissions. A hydraulically operated engine cooling fan runs only when needed, reducing fuel consumption and noise levels. Volvo long life coolants protect the machine for up to 6,000 hours, resulting in lowered operating costs and more uptime. Also, the engine is backed by Volvo dealer service and parts support, as well as a 1,000-hour warranty. The highly maneuverable, mid-sized compactor is suited for small to medium sized jobs and even performs well inside structures. Able to negotiate slopes of up to 33%, the SD75 drum frame design offers better, more effective grade ability. The company says the possibility of digging into the surface or damaging the machine is eliminated, as an angled frame allows better clearance in the approach to steep slopes and while loading.
