Sawyer Manufacturing Company
Sawyer Manufacturing Company has introduced the Grasshopper, the newest in a lineup of  pipeline products. The Grasshopper offers a method of securing a ground for welding to prevent arc burn with a grounding clamp that grips a dedicated bolt. According to the company, shielding added throughout the device offers reinforcement against arcing outside of the main pin. The pin also makes brother-in-law welding on large diameter pipe possible by allowing multiple welders to ground to the same device.  Nylon-insulated magnets further prevent the risk of arcing where they connect vertically or horizontally to the pipe. The magnets also prevent stretching or slacking. Sawyer’s engineers ergonomically designed the Grasshopper to allow quick and simple placement and removal from the pipe.

Rex-Cut Abrasives
A line of cotton fiber abrasive wheels for removing rust, corrosion, and thread-lock from pipe threads during oil field inspections and process maintenance, as well as deburring manufactured pipe and tubing, is available from Rex-Cut Abrasives. Rex-Cut® Type 1 Wheels for pipe thread maintenance feature multiple layers of non-woven cotton fabric and aluminum oxide abrasives pressed and bonded together with a soft bond for removing rust and corrosion from pipe threads.  For thread-lock removal without changing the thread geometry, Smooth Touch™ Wheels with a medium bond are recommended and  last up to five times longer than unitized wheels, claims the firm. Developed for use on stainless steel, Inconel®, and other highly-alloyed pipe and tubing.  For manual or robotic deburring and finishing of machined and cast parts, different grit types, grain sizes, and bonds are offered.

Newpark Resources
Newpark Resources says drilling and completion crews can now handle the biggest rig mat cleaning jobs in hours instead of days with the DURA-BASE® T-REX mat cleaning system. The T-REX compliments Newpark’s DURA-BASE® Advanced-Composite Mats and was developed to drastically reduce the time needed to clean rig matting and speed the site-to-site redeployment of equipment and completion operations. According to the company, the Mat Cleaning System alleviates the need of cleaning the mats manually and is fully contained, which reduces the amount of water required by recycling it. Transported via tractor trailer, the system can be deployed anywhere throughout the Marcellus region. Initially limited to the Marcellus, the company plans to expand the offering to other markets.

Ditch Witch
Ditch Witch has re-engineered one of its best-selling horizontal directional drills, the JT2020, to create the Ditch Witch JT20, an efficient and productive drill in its horsepower class. The compact, low-maintenance, 74.5-hp JT20 has an exceptionally high ratio of power to size, making it an ideal drill for installing utilities in tight, congested areas. Equipped with a Tier-4 compliant engine, it eliminates the need for an expensive after-treatment, and produces less noise—at 87 dBA. The JT20’s rack-and-pinion design offers 17,000 lb of thrust and 20,000 lb of pullback force. The cruise-control system simplifies drilling and backreaming, while a heavy-duty anchor system—with 16 inches more engagement than competitors’ drills—keeps the JT20 fixed during operation. The JT20 also comes with dual rear independent stabilizers that enhance stability on uneven or rough terrain.
