Capline Pipeline Undergoes Open Season

January 2018

Plains All American Pipeline LP, Marathon Petroleum Corp. and BP Oil Pipeline Co. have launched a non-binding open season for the reversal of the Capline Pipeline, a 40-inch crude oil pipeline that transports 1.2 MMbpd from St. James, LA, to Patoka, IL.

If Plains All American, Marathon and BP decide to proceed, southbound flow could be operational by the second half of 2022. Once in southbound service, the pipeline would have an initial capacity up to 300 Mbpd and would be able to receive crude oil from connecting carriers at Patoka. At St. James, shippers would have access to a distribution network that includes refineries, terminals, ships, barges and rail.
